Unyte Group: F to B Grade, 82% CO2 Reduction

A green construction firm selling carbon-cutting materials had a website that worked against their mission. We rebuilt it from the ground up. Carbon dropped 82% and their whole web presence changed.

The Challenge

Unyte Group builds with carbon-cutting materials like biochar, hemp, and other green options. Their mission is to shrink construction's carbon footprint through better materials and methods.

The problem: their website fought that mission. It ran on a heavy template with big images, blocking scripts, and too many third-party resources. It burned far more energy per visit than it should. For a company that sells green, the irony hurt.

Our Approach

We started with a full P.E.E.R. audit to find where the waste came from. Then we rebuilt the whole site from scratch. No templates, no page builders. Every line of code was written with speed as the top goal.

Hand-Coded Architecture

Full rebuild with hand-coded React and server-side meta tags. Zero template waste, zero unused CSS, zero blocking scripts.

Image Engineering

All images converted to WebP, served at the right sizes with responsive srcsets. Below-fold images lazy-load. Total image weight cut by over 90%.

Performance Infrastructure

Fast hosting with strong caching, Brotli compression, and smart resource loading. Server response under 200ms.

Carbon Budget

Every page built to a strict carbon budget: under 0.3g CO2 per view. We made content and design choices within that limit from day one.

The Results

The rebuild improved every metric that matters: speed, carbon, user experience, and search rank.

Environmental Impact

At normal traffic levels, the new site saves real carbon on every page load:

CO2 saved per page view

1.05kg

~4 miles

Equivalent driving distance saved per 1,000 views

What Unyte Group Said

"For every 1,000 page loads, our website now saves over 1KG of CO2 — equivalent to driving nearly 4 miles in an average petrol car."
