Inclusive Design

A Web for Everyone

We design digital experiences that include every user. This page details how we embed accessibility, equity and inclusion into everything we build.

Why It Matters

1 in 5 People in the UK Live with a Disability

That is over 14 million people. If your website creates barriers for them, you are excluding a significant part of your audience. Inclusive design means building products that work for the widest possible range of people from the outset — not retrofitting accessibility as an afterthought.

Inclusive design is not simply a compliance exercise. It is a commitment to equity. When a website works well for users with visual, auditory, motor and cognitive needs, it works better for everyone.

As a neurodivergent-led team, we know first-hand that people use the web in different ways. We design with that in mind from day one.

Our Standards

The Rules We Build To

We don't aim for the minimum. We build to the highest globally recognised standards and exceed typical business requirements.

Standard

WCAG 2.2

The international standard for web accessibility. Three conformance levels: A (minimum), AA (recommended) and AAA (enhanced). We conform to AAA — the highest level.

Level AA (Baseline)

  • Colour contrast of at least 4.5:1 for normal text
  • All images have clear text labels
  • Every page works with a keyboard alone
  • Forms have visible labels and clear error messages
  • Content can be zoomed to 200% without loss

Level AAA (Our Standard)

  • Colour contrast of at least 7:1 for all text
  • Plain language mode for expert content
  • Reduced motion for users who need it
  • Definitions for technical terms via tooltips
  • Content readable at Flesch-Kincaid grade 10 or below

B Corp Standard

JEDI Standards V2.2

B Lab requires every certified B Corp to demonstrate digital inclusion. Three mandatory tests must be met. We help clients pass all three.

JEDI 2.m — Web Accessibility

Your company website must conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We test to AAA. Zero automated violations is our target across all pages.

JEDI 2.p — Inclusive Communications

All digital communications must be accessible and inclusive. We use plain language, descriptive alt text on all images, logical heading hierarchy and clear link text.

JEDI 2.q — Service Inclusivity

Your digital product must be usable regardless of ability or device. We test for screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, touch target sizing and focus management.

ISO Standard

ISO 30071-1

ISO 30071-1 provides guidance on embedding accessibility throughout an organisation's processes — not just in the final product. It covers planning, design, development, testing and maintenance.

  • Accessibility requirements included in every project brief
  • Testing with assistive technologies (screen readers, keyboard navigation)
  • Automated checks integrated into every build cycle
  • Accessibility reviewed with every content update

In Practice

How We Build for Everyone

We don't bolt on accessibility at the end. It is woven into every stage of our process.

  • Semantic HTML — proper headings, landmarks, lists and form labels
  • Colour system — all text meets 7:1 AAA contrast minimum
  • Keyboard first — every feature works without a mouse
  • Plain language toggle — switches expert content to grade-10 reading level
  • Term tooltips — hover or tap definitions for all technical terms
  • Reduced motion — respects prefers-reduced-motion and our toggle
  • Touch targets — minimum 48px on all interactive elements
  • Automated testing — axe-core runs on every page, every build
  • Content audit — Flesch-Kincaid grading on every build
